Little Heroes
The inspiration for this series came in a bakery in my neighbourhood: the shop assistant put my croissant in a paper bag. Just outside the shop I unpacked it and started to eat it. The bag served its purpose for only a few seconds, then it had fulfilled its destiny.
Despite being very brief, these bags have a kind of life. They are planned, created, fabricated, transported. Material, energy and creativity are involved – the work of humans and machines.
My portraits are a hymn to these scarcely valued heroes. May they live long!
Litte heroes is part of a larger project about too little acknokwledged phenomena in our culture.
